12 luxury SUVs from the Evoque to the Escalade, graded by Kelley Blue Book’s experts

1. Land Rover Range Rover Evoque: Last Place Finish

The Range Rover Evoque lands at the bottom of Kelley Blue Book’s luxury subcompact list, scoring 3.2 out of 5. It carries a price of $51,175, which is the figure the page lists beside it.

A last-place rank on a list of small luxury crossovers still leaves the Evoque in respectable company. The score simply trails every rival that the experts graded, so the Land Rover badge and styling are what a shopper pays for here.

2. Land Rover Range Rover: Tied For Last

The 2025 Range Rover scores 4.0 and costs $109,375 on KBB’s full-size luxury ranking. That puts it in a tie for last place among the luxury full-size SUVs the experts rated.

Sharing the bottom of this particular list is a relative verdict. A 4.0 is still a solid grade, and the Range Rover’s price sits well above the list’s cheaper entries, which makes the value question the main caveat. The 2025 model year is the one Kelley Blue Book rates, so the grade applies to the current-era Range Rover rather than older versions.

3. Land Rover Defender 90: Two-Door Adventurer

Kelley Blue Book scores the Defender 90 at 4.0 and prices it at $116,250 on its luxury compact SUV list. That sticker is the highest dollar figure among the compact entries in this gallery.

The Defender is a Land Rover, like the Evoque and Range Rover elsewhere here, and it lands in the same middle-of-the-pack territory on grades. Shoppers weighing it against rivals should note how much of the cost goes to the short-wheelbase body style.

4. Alfa Romeo Tonale: Alfa Romeo Entry

The Alfa Romeo Tonale rates 4.1 on KBB’s luxury subcompact rankings. That score puts the Italian crossover well ahead of the Evoque at the bottom of the same list.

The Tonale is one of the less common names among the small luxury SUVs. Its grade suggests the experts see it as a competent alternative to the German and Swedish choices, though the listing offers a score rather than a long verdict.

5. Porsche Macan: Sporty Benchmark

The Porsche Macan scores 4.2 at $64,895 on Kelley Blue Book’s luxury compact list. Those numbers place it above the Defender 90 in rating while costing far less.

Among luxury compacts, a price near $65,000 is notable for a Porsche badge. The Macan’s score is good rather than class-leading, since two rivals in this gallery from the same list sit higher. On a list where the Defender 90 costs $116,250, the Macan’s sticker looks modest, and that contrast helps explain why its score reads as strong value.

6. Lexus LX: Full-Size Flagship

The 2025 Lexus LX scores 4.4 at $106,850 among the luxury full-size SUVs on KBB’s ranking. That grade is well above the Range Rover’s tied-for-last 4.0 in the same category.

The LX costs a little less than the Range Rover on this list while earning a higher rating. For buyers who want a big luxury SUV, that gap is the headline takeaway. The 2025 model year is the one KBB lists, so the 4.4 reflects the recent Lexus flagship rather than a long-running older version.

7. Volvo XC40: Swedish Tie

The Volvo XC40 shares a 4.5 with the Mercedes-Benz GLA on Kelley Blue Book’s luxury subcompact list. That joint score puts the pair among the strongest rated small luxury SUVs.

Only the BMW X1, at 4.7, finishes ahead of that tied pair in this gallery’s subcompact picks. The shared result means the XC40 and GLA are effectively equals in the experts’ eyes. Both models are rated against the same subcompact luxury field that includes the Evoque at 3.2, which shows how wide the spread of grades is in this small class.

8. Cadillac Escalade: Big Cadillac

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade scores 4.5 at $90,295 on KBB’s luxury full-size list. It is priced below both the Lexus LX and the Range Rover at the top of that category.

A 4.5 puts the Escalade near the top of the full-size group, behind only the Lincoln Navigator in this gallery. The lower price relative to its rivals is a major part of its appeal on the list. The 2025 model year is the one rated, so the figures describe the latest version that KBB’s experts scored.

9. Lincoln Navigator: Category Champion

The Lincoln Navigator is number one on KBB’s luxury full-size ranking with a 4.6 out of 5 and a price of $94,890. It outscores the Escalade, the Lexus LX and the Range Rover.

Topping the full-size class is a notable result for Lincoln. The price lands between the Escalade and the Lexus LX, so the Navigator wins without being the cheapest option. The Navigator’s 4.6 is the highest score among the full-size luxury SUVs in this gallery, ahead of the Escalade’s 4.5 and the Lexus LX’s 4.4.

10. BMW X1: Small Luxury Leader

The BMW X1 leads Kelley Blue Book’s luxury subcompact SUVs with a 4.7 out of 5. That makes it the top-rated small luxury crossover in the experts’ lineup.

The X1 beats the Volvo XC40 and Mercedes GLA, which share a 4.5, and the Alfa Romeo Tonale at 4.1. For buyers shopping the smallest luxury class, the score points to the X1 as the benchmark. Its score also sits two tenths above the 4.5 shared by the XC40 and GLA, a small but clear margin over the nearest rivals in the class.

11. Mercedes-Benz GLC: Compact Contender

The Mercedes-Benz GLC scores 4.7 on KBB’s luxury compact list. That grade matches the BMW X1 at the top of the subcompact list and beats the Porsche Macan’s 4.2.

The GLC finishes just behind the Genesis GV70 among the compacts here. The listing gives a score but no price for the GLC in the package, so the rating is the main data point. That score also ties it with the BMW X1 at 4.7, even though the two come from different KBB size classes and are not ranked directly against each other.

12. Genesis GV70: Top Of The List

Genesis GV70 — Image Credit: HJUdall - CC0/Wiki Commons

The Genesis GV70 is KBB’s top luxury compact SUV at 4.8 out of 5, priced at $50,480. It is the highest score in this entire gallery, and its price is lower than the Evoque’s.

Winning with a price near $50,000 is the story of the GV70 ranking. It outscores the Macan and the GLC while costing less than either the Porsche or the Defender. Its 4.8 is one tenth above the GLC’s 4.7 and six tenths above the Macan’s 4.2, which makes the margin a comfortable one on the compact list.
