Morning Overview

10 gas-electric models driven the fewest miles, and four of them are Lexus

Hybrids are often bought for long commutes, yet some gas-electric models rack up surprisingly few miles each year. A ranking of annual mileage identifies which ones sit at the bottom of the table and how far they trail the hybrid average. The ten models below are the least driven, and four of them are Lexus.

1. Lexus NX 350h: The Least-Driven Hybrid

Averages only 10,312 miles a year, 29.8% below the hybrid average and the lowest figure in the study, according to annual mileage rankings. That puts the compact luxury crossover at the very bottom of the mileage table among all hybrids ranked.

The gap amounts to roughly four thousand miles a year compared with the typical hybrid. The payoff does not explain the cause, so reasons such as short commutes or second-car duty remain speculation, but the low usage is clear in the numbers. Anyone comparing hybrids should note that the lowest-mileage model is a luxury badge rather than an economy car.

2. Lexus UX 250h: Small Crossover, Short Trips

Averages 10,651 miles a year, 27.5% below the hybrid average, per hybrid mileage figures. That figure sits just above the NX 350h and places the subcompact luxury crossover second from the bottom of the ranking.

Owners of this small Lexus rack up well under the typical hybrid annual total. The study reports usage rather than motives, so the shortfall may reflect city driving or a secondary household vehicle, but the numbers alone do not settle that question. Placed beside the NX above it, the pair shows how closely the smallest Lexus hybrids track each other in annual use.

3. Lexus RX 450h: Mid-Size Luxury Hauler

Averaging 11,459 miles a year, this model lands 22.0% below the hybrid average in published mileage data. The larger luxury crossover is the third Lexus to appear near the bottom of the list.

Drivers cover about three thousand fewer miles annually than the typical hybrid owner. Because the payoff reports only averages, it cannot show whether the gap comes from commuting patterns, weekend use or a preference for other household vehicles. Together with the two models before it, the pattern makes the Lexus concentration at the top of the list hard to miss.

4. Lexus ES 300h: Fourth Lexus on the List

Rounding out the Lexus presence in the bottom ten, it averages 12,323 miles a year, 16.1% below the hybrid average, based on annual mileage study. The midsize sedan is the fourth Lexus on the list.

The shortfall is smaller than for the three crossovers ahead of it but still well below the hybrid norm. Four of the ten least-driven hybrids carrying the same badge is the pattern behind the headline, though the study does not explain the cause. Readers should treat the ranking as a snapshot of average behavior rather than a statement about any single car.

5. Ford Explorer Hybrid: Three-Row Family Hybrid

This three-row family crossover averages 12,797 miles a year, 12.9% below the hybrid average, reports mileage ranking. It is the first non-Lexus entry in the bottom ten.

The gap is modest next to the Lexus models above it, amounting to a little under two thousand miles a year. The data does not say how owners use the vehicle, so the lighter mileage could reflect suburban errands, but that remains an assumption. Shoppers weighing a hybrid for road trips may find the comparison useful, but the average itself guides little about individual use.

6. Honda CR-V Hybrid: Popular Compact Crossover

Averages 12,869 miles a year, 12.4% below the hybrid average, according to hybrid mileage list. The compact crossover is a familiar name among hybrids.

Its figure sits barely above the Explorer Hybrid, so the two are nearly tied. Even a very popular hybrid can land in the low-mileage group, though the study does not offer a reason, and an average cannot describe how any single owner drives. The result is a reminder that popularity and heavy mileage do not always go together in this segment.

7. Toyota Tundra: Pickup With a Light Footprint

Averages 12,979 miles a year, 11.7% below the hybrid average, so this full-size pickup covers less ground than a Camry Hybrid, notes mileage comparison. Pickups are often assumed to be heavily used work vehicles.

The result suggests that many hybrid truck owners use them differently than that stereotype implies. Without further data, it is unclear whether the cause is weekend use, towing only occasionally or simple preference, so the figure should be read as a description rather than an explanation. The comparison to a midsize sedan hybrid makes the gap easy to picture, even though the two vehicles serve different purposes.

8. Toyota Venza: Quiet Mid-Size Crossover

Averages 13,100 miles a year, 10.9% below the hybrid average, according to ranking of hybrid mileage. The mid-size crossover sits in the middle of the bottom ten.

That is roughly 1,600 fewer miles a year than the typical hybrid. The payoff does not indicate whether owners are mostly commuters or occasional drivers, so the shortfall alone says little about how the crossover is used day to day. Buyers should treat that as context for the segment rather than a prediction for any single vehicle.

9. Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid: Korean Family Hauler

Averages 13,717 miles a year, 6.7% below the hybrid average, as listed in hybrid mileage report. Compared with the Lexus models, the family crossover sits much closer to the hybrid norm.

The gap is narrow enough that ordinary variation in driver habits could account for it. As the entry near the bottom of the ten, it shows how quickly the shortfall shrinks once the unusually low Lexus figures are removed from the picture. That makes it the mildest case among the entries ranked here, and the one least likely to signal unusual ownership patterns.

10. Ford Maverick: Compact Truck Tops the List

Averages 14,060 miles a year, 4.3% below the hybrid average and the highest figure still inside the bottom ten, says mileage study. The compact pickup closes out the list.

The margin separating it from the average hybrid is small, so it barely qualifies for the list. Its inclusion shows that the least-driven group is a tight cluster rather than a long tail, though the study does not explain what drives the pattern. The ranking therefore ends on a figure that sits much closer to the average than the Lexus entries at the top.
